MARGAO
Miscreants targeted two Church-run schools, a higher secondary at Majorda and a high school at Assolna in the jurisdiction of the Colva and Cuncolim police stations respectively, decamping cash and DVRs from the office premises.

In both the incidents, the culprits seemed to have adopted a similar modus operandi, lifting away the DVRs of the CCTV cameras before decamping with the booty. The accused are believed to have effected entry into the office premises of the two schools through the rear side.

At Assolna, teachers as well as students of the Regina Martyrum High School were taken aback when they found the locks of the gate and doors of the rear side of the school damaged. Their worst fears came true when they entered the office premises only to realise that the miscreants managed to lay their hands on cash of Rs 2.95 lakh. The miscreants also committed theft of two DVRs worth around Rs 40,000, totalling Rs 3.35 lakh.

Police said the cash of Rs 2.95 lakh, which has been stolen, pertains to the uniforms of the students.

A complaint to this effect was lodged with the Cuncolim police by school headmistress Miriam Afonso, saying that between 2.45 pm of October 10 to 6.45 am of October 11, unknown accused persons effected entry into the school from rear side by breaking open the locks of the gate and doors of the school and committed theft of two DVRs worth Rs 40,000, besides cash amounting to Rs 2.925 lakh.

Cuncolim police station in-charge, PI Diego Gracias said the police have registered FIR under Section 454, 457 and 380 of the IPC against unknown culprits.

In a similar incident reported at the Fr Basilio Andrade Higher Secondary School, Majorda Tuesday night, unknown accused person effected entry into the school office and decamped with cash around Rs 20,000, besides the DVRs.

Colva police station in-charge, PI Theron D’Costa informed that the motive behind the incident appears to be theft given that the miscreants have only laid their hands on the cash and have lifted away the DVRs to destroy evidence.

He said the police have registered an offense against unknown persons following a complaint lodged by the Higher Secondary School Principal.
