OLD GOA
Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar, along with party president Manoj Parab, began an indefinite sit-in protest outside the building housing the Dy Town Planner’s office in Panaji on Monday.
The MLA brought along with him a mat, pillow, and suitcase containing essential items, as he was firm that until his two demands are met, he would not budge.
Later, speaking to reporters, Borkar outlined that his two demands include the demolition of the retaining wall on Bambolim beachfront by a starred hotel, and the revocation of all licences for the Bambolim hotel project, which has been granted FAR of over 200 percent. “Until these two demands are met, I will not end my protest,” said MLA Borkar as he sat on the footpath along with Parab.
“We want to send a clear message that we won’t allow mega projects in St Andre constituency, as we are already facing a shortage of basic necessities,” Borkar added.
He then called upon all Goans who have faced issues with the TCP department over approval of licences.
“If any Goan has faced issues with TCP over the grant of licences, they are welcome to share the same with RGP, and we will highlight their issues,” he said.
Parab said that MLA Borkar took the step despite being admitted to hospital for health issues a month ago. “We had asked him whether he would be in a position to sit on an indefinite protest, and he said that he would do anything for the sake of St Andre constituency, as the people have elected him to safeguard their interests,” Parab added.
