Margao MLA warns public of fake Facebook profile impersonating him

MARGAO
The office of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat has informed that a fake Facebook profile has been created under the name “Digambar Kamat G”, impersonating the Margao MLA and former Chief Minister.

The press release issued by the MLA’s office stated that the fake profile is being used to randomly add people and message them requesting their phone numbers, pretending to be Digambar Kamat. “This is a shameful and unethical act, and a clear attempt to exploit the goodwill and trust that Digambar Kamat has earned over decades of honest and dedicated public service. We are deeply pained that someone would stoop to such low and dishonest methods ” not only to mislead innocent citizens but possibly to gain political mileage by misusing the identity of a respected public servant,” the press release stated.

The MLA’s office added: “We wish to firmly clarify that Digambar Kamat has no connection whatsoever with this account, and he has not authorised or created any such Facebook profile.”

The MLA’s office has appealed to the citizens not to fall for such messages or share any personal details.

Saying this is a serious cyber offence and must not be taken lightly, the MLA’s office said that the police authorities have been informed about this incident, and they have taken the matter seriously. “We trust that appropriate steps will be taken to trace the individual behind this fake account. We also urge people to stay cautious and not believe or circulate any wrong information or misleading news being spread on social media by certain groups with malicious intentions,” the press release said.

The MLA’s office added: “This is not just about impersonating a leader”it is an attack on the values of trust, honesty, and public service. We are grateful to all those who have already extended their support and brought this matter to our attention.”
