Betalbatim Sporting Club secured a place in the semifinals of the 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament with a 2-1 win over SC Davorlim in a thrilling quarter-final match at Vodlemoll Ground, Kakoda. Dickson was the star for Betalbatim, scoring both goals. His first came in the 3rd minute from a free-kick that was fumbled by the Davorlim goalkeeper. He doubled the lead in the 59th minute, finishing calmly after a defensive slip. Davorlim managed a consolation goal in the dying moments, scored by Ajay from a rebound off a free-kick. Despite late pressure, Betalbatim held on to secure their semi-final berth.
Velroy strike sends Carmel Boys into Rebello Pandal semis
MARGAO: Carmel Boys Curtorim edged past Ambaulim Quepem Boys 1-0 to enter the semi-finals of the 18th Rebello Pandal Football Tournament, held at St. Rita Church Ground, Maina Curtorim, on Thursday. The match was a tightly contested affair with both teams playing aggressive football and creating chances. However, the breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Velroy Fernandes fired in a powerful shot, which proved to be the match-winner. His performance earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ award, presented by football enthusiast Rosario Fernandes.
Cricket coaching camp concludes in Margao
MARGAO: The 33rd edition of the cricket coaching camp at Amrutnagar, Margao concluded on Thursday with a certificate distribution ceremony. A total of 40 budding cricketers who completed the camp received certificates from chief guest Vinayak Kamat, senior badminton coach. The camp continues to serve as a grassroots initiative to nurture cricketing talent in the area.
Mandovi river crossing event held
MARGAO: The Mandovi River Crossing event, organised by Amigos de Clark, was held successfully at the Divar Ferry Point in Ribandar on Thursday. A total of 18 swimmers participated, including the youngest entrant aged just five years. The event was conducted with the support of lifeguards and enthusiastic parents, ensuring safety and smooth execution. Organisers included Francis Clark, treasurer of the Goa Swimming Association, Melissa Clark, secretary of Amigos de Clark Sports Club, Dr Juwel Pearly Fernandes, and John Clark (AITUC). The event aimed to promote open-water swimming and encourage participation across all age groups.
