64-year-old found in well with rope around neck; villagers demand probe

Mystery shrouds the death of 64-year-old Teofolio Cardozo, a resident of Cavelossim, after the police found him dead in a well near his house on Thursday morning.
While local villagers have demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter and find out whether there’s any foul play behind Cardozo’s death, the Colva police has said that the post-mortem examination will reveal the exact cause of death.
Cardozo’s death raised many an eyebrows after he was found dead in a well with a nylon rope round his neck. A chair was also found inside the well.
This has only thrown up questions amongst villagers whether the deceased was done to death before he was dumped into the well.
When this question was posed to Colva police station in-charge, PI Diego Gracias said that police has registered a case of unnatural death behind Cardozo’s death. “The post-mortem examination is scheduled on Friday. The autopsy will shed light on the cause of death. The police have so far registered a case of unnatural death. Based on the post-mortem examination, the police would conduct further investigations,” PI Diego said.
A forensic team visited the site to conduct investigations into the matter.
A senior police officer said the question before the men-in-uniform is simple – whether the deceased was done to death before he was thrown into the well or whether he died due to drowning.
