A 27-year-old man died after suffering an electric shock while playing Holi at his residence in Zuarinagar on the afternoon of March 4.

The deceased has been identified as Dileep Gaud (27), a native of Uttar Pradesh who was presently residing at Birla, Zuarinagar in Sancoale.

According to police information, the incident came to light at around 1.48 pm after Verna police received a phone call from the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Chicalim, informing them that a person had been brought dead due to an electric shock.

During inquiries, it was learnt that Gaud was playing Holi at his residence when the mishap occurred. While making arrangements for water, he reportedly lifted a metal pipe measuring around 6.5 metres in length with the intention of connecting it to a water tap. However, he allegedly failed to notice a high-tension electric wire passing overhead.

Police said the metal pipe accidentally came into contact with the high-tension wire, causing an electric current to pass through the pipe and his body, leading to his death on the spot.

The body was later shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where it has been preserved for medico-legal formalities.

Verna police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Carey Fernandes of Verna police station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
