The Goa University Inter-Collegiate Men’s Cricket Championship 2025-26 got underway at the Goa University Cricket Ground, Taleigao, on Thursday with two matches played on the opening day.
In the first match, Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Bicholim defeated Goa Dental College and Hospital, Bambolim by 88 runs.
Batting first after being put in, Narayan Zantye College posted 191/9 in 17 overs, with Ismail Zidane scoring 88 off 42 balls and Vishal Kavlekar adding 26. Daksh Mestri (4-18) and Utkarsh N (3-49) were the main wicket-takers.
In reply, Goa Dental College were bowled out for 103 in 13 overs despite Utkarsh N (23) and Mayuresh Sutar (22) offering some resistance. Ismail Zidane returned impressive figures of 4-25 and was named Player of the Match.
In the second match, Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem registered a commanding 107-run win over Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim.
Electing to bat first, Government College Quepem scored 237/4 in 20 overs, powered by a century from Darpan Pagi (100 off 55 balls) and 47 from Chandradeep Naik. Abhishek Dessai picked up 2-33 for Cuncolim.
Chasing the target, Cuncolim College were all out for 130 in 19.3 overs, with Yuniket Dessai scoring 30 and Vignesh Dessai contributing 17. Arjun Jomali starred with the ball for Quepem, claiming 5-31, while Abhishek chipped in with 2-25.
Darpan Pagi was adjudged Player of the Match, while Arjun Jomali received the Best Bowler award.
Matches scheduled for March 6 include Rosary College, Navelim taking on PES College of Pharmacy at 9 am, followed by PES Ravi Naik College, Farmagudi facing Goa College of Music at 1.30 pm.
