Contractors given 3 months to complete pending works

The long-pending construction of the new Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Candolim may finally move towards completion, with MLA Michael Lobo reviewing the progress of the Rs 20-crore project after taking charge as chairman of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
During an inspection of the site, Lobo said the government is aiming to complete the building within the next three months and inaugurate the facility by June 15, offering relief to residents along the busy coastal belt.
“We are monitoring the work every week. We want to complete the work in three months and inaugurate the new PHC building by June 15,” Lobo said after reviewing the progress with officials.
While the external structure of the building is largely ready, several internal works – including plastering, tile fitting and electrical installations – are yet to be completed.
The foundation stone for the annexe to the Candolim PHC was laid in 2020, and the project was later entrusted to the GSIDC at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore. The construction contract was awarded to M/s R Z Malpani for around Rs 17 crore.
The new ground-plus-one facility will include emergency treatment units, OPD services, male and female wards, a casualty section, as well as laboratory and X-ray facilities.
It will replace the existing PHC building constructed in 1969, which currently serves residents of seven villages, including Candolim and Calangute.
