Women and children’s rights activist Auda Viegas has opposed the proposed night club policy, saying Goa does not need such a policy as it would only benefit profit-driven businessmen who ignore safety, security and the culture of the State.

She said activities such as EDM music shows, night clubs and the hiring of semi-clad women dancers would increase the demand for trafficking for sexual exploitation. She warned that these activities take place in an environment with easy access to intoxicants and drugs, which remains largely uncontrolled and unmonitored.

“Goa was once known as a tourist State for its natural beauty. These resources have been damaged to attract the wrong kind of tourists who come only for night clubbing, sex, drugs and alcohol. This encourages crime and has increased the trade in drugs, dance bars and trafficking of women,” she said.
