In the aftermath of a tragic accident that claimed the life of a young government official at Guirim along the NH-66, Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has called for the immediate completion of the long-pending service road on both sides of the highway near the Guirim flyover.

The accident, which took place on Tuesday, involved a collision between a bus and a scooter, resulting in the death of Narayan Abhyankar, an under secretary in the law department and resident of Colvale.

The fatal mishap occurred near the Green Park Hotel on the NH-66 just where the service roads meets the NH.

D’Souza expressed strong dissatisfaction with the inordinate delay in completing the short but critical stretch of the service road, despite the main highway work being completed back in 2020.

He revealed that he has already taken up the matter with NH Executive Engineer Jude Carvalho and has urged him to treat the issue as a top priority.

According to D’Souza, the PWD has informed him that show-cause notices have been issued to individuals causing obstruction in the road’s completion and that the path will soon be cleared.

The issue has also been brought to the attention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Residents and commuters have long raised concerns over the incomplete service road, which forces two-wheeler riders and pedestrians to navigate dangerously close to speeding traffic on the highway.

The recent fatality has only reignited calls for swift government action to avoid further loss of life.
