Jan 29 meet aims to curb rising cases

The Cyber Crime Cell of the Goa Police will hold a State-level Cybercrime Coordination Meeting with all bank managers on January 29, as cases of financial and technology-based fraud continue to rise in the State.
In a letter to the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta has asked all bank managers in Goa to attend the meeting. The aim is to strengthen coordination between the police and banks, which are often the first point of contact for victims of cyber fraud.
The letter says the meeting will discuss issues such as delays in freezing and unfreezing accounts, problems in blocking and reversing funds, and procedural hurdles that slow down investigations. Topics like inter-bank cooperation, faster response systems and preventive measures against cyber financial crimes will also be discussed.
Banks have been asked to come prepared with suggestions to help the police respond more quickly and effectively to the growing and complex nature of cyber fraud.
SP Gupta said the meeting is important to improve coordination between banks and the police as financial cybercrime continues to increase in Goa.
Earlier this week, the Cyber Crime Cell honoured two bank managers, Smita Vasant Rane and Vinu Thomas, for their alertness and sensitive handling of senior citizen customers, which helped prevent major financial losses in separate fraud cases.
