In a plot twist that even Bollywood would find hard to script, the Mapusa market witnessed a clash of titans as supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) went head-to-head in an impromptu rally on Thursday evening.

What began as a routine campaign event soon turned into a spectacle that left local vendors scratching their heads in bewilderment.

As if by some cosmic joke, supporters of the BJP, led by none other than the State BJP President, Sadanand Tanavade, and local MLA Joshua D’Souza, found themselves face to face with the spirited followers of the RGP, led by their fearless leader, Manoj Parab and St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar.

The scene was set for a showdown of epic proportions, all amidst the hustle and bustle of the market.

While the BJP brigade opted for the tried and tested tactic of appealing to the market community in the name of the beloved PM Narendra Modi, the RGP supporters took a more aggressive approach.

Armed with slogans and pamphlets, they targeted vendors of Goan origin with their fervent pleas for support. It was a battle of wits and words, with each side vying for the attention of the unsuspecting vendors. In a moment straight out of a Shakespearean comedy, the two groups crossed paths in the narrow lanes of the market. And as fate would have it, chaos ensued.

The RGP supporters erupted into a chorus of their signature slogan, “Uzzo Uzzo,” while their party president took centre stage, quite literally, hopping around in a frenzy of excitement.

It was a sight to behold, one that left onlookers wondering if they had stumbled onto the set of a political circus.

As the dust settled and the echoes of slogans faded into the night, one couldn’t help but marvel at the absurdity of it all.
