Post-monsoon heat peaks in Goa, feel-like temp at 43°C

Three days after the official withdrawal of the monsoon, Goa awaits a shift in weather -- reported delay in the onset of winter -- with maximum temperatures hovering around 35°C, but the feel-like temperature touching 41-43°C.

Amid extreme heat, the residents are also experiencing oppressive humidity levels that peaked at 89 per cent on Thursday.

As per IMD Goa, the maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 34.5°C, 2.3 °C higher than normal while the minimum temperature was recorded at 25 °C, 0.8 °C above normal.

According to a few private weather sites, a severe heat alert has been issued for the State, warning that the prevailing hot and humid conditions are expected to persist for the next 7-10 days.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert till October 10, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

“Thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur over Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra on October 16 and again between October 18 and 20,” it said.

Health officials have urged people to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
