The PWD has begun work to rebuild the collapsed retaining wall that threatened the house of Sagar Karekar at Manaswada-Chimbel.
The work was launched in the presence of St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, panchas Sandesh Chopdekar and Pravin Chopdekar, PWD officials and others.
Later, speaking to reporters, MLA Fernandes informed that the work has been undertaken under the Disaster Management funds.
“I met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday and apprised him of the need to rebuild the retaining wall to save the house from collapse. The CM immediately directed the relevant authorities to get the work done under Disaster Management,” Fernandes informed while thanking Sawant for the prompt action.
Fernandes further said that the work is delicate and needs to be done with utmost caution, and hoped for favourable weather during the construction.
The two panchas, Sandesh and Pravin, thanked the CM and MLA Fernandes for coming to the aid of the Karekar family. PWD AE Jude, JE Chodankar, the contractor and locals were present on the occasion.
