Manipal Hospitals in association with the State government launched the Rakshak programme, in which the government staff from various departments would be given training on dealing with emergencies.
The programme was launched on the occasion of World Heart Day in Chimbel on Thursday, in which staff from Goa Police, Transport, KTCL, GHRDC, Fire and Emergency Services and other departments were given training.
Hailing the initiative of Manipal Hospitals, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said it will go a long way in saving lives of the public who otherwise do not get the primary first aid during emergencies.
“In Goa, 150 emergencies occur daily and if all government staff get Rakshak training, then at least 100 such emergencies could be handled by them,” Sawant added.
“Recently, a firefighter died after collapsing during firefighting as those around him did not know what to do. They just shifted him to the GMC where he was declared brought dead. If primary first aid was given to him, maybe he would have survived,” Sawant said while urging the participants to use their Rakshak training to help persons in emergencies.
Sawant further stated that Master Trainers could be prepared in every department, who would then train the other staff.
The CM further informed that today every third person has either BP, diabetes or heart problems.
“Many of us are not even aware that we suffer from these diseases,” said Sawant, while urging everybody to get themselves checked for the same after attaining the age of 30.
Meanwhile, doctors from the Manipal Hospitals led by Dr Jeedhu Radhakrishnan imparted the basic life support training to the personnel from different departments.
