In a significant relief for motorists and commuters, the newly constructed Sangolda bypass road, built at an estimated cost of Rs 9.85 crore, is now ready and is expected to be opened for traffic by mid-February.

The much-awaited bypass is set to ease congestion on the main highway stretch in Porvorim, which has been facing severe traffic bottlenecks due to ongoing construction work on the elevated corridor.

The 1.2 km long and 15-metre-wide bypass road will provide an alternative route for vehicles, thereby reducing the load on the existing highway and allowing authorities to expedite construction work on the elevated corridor.

The Public Works Department (PWD) has confirmed that all major works, including hotmixing and road markings, have been completed, with only the installation of signboards remaining.

PWD Executive Engineer Jude Carvalho informed that the bypass road extends from Damian de Goa to Sapna Habitat, connecting to the CHOGM Road. "The road is complete, and only the final touches, such as putting up signboards, are left. We expect to officially inaugurate and open the bypass for traffic by February 15," Carvalho stated.

Authorities have planned to divert traffic through the new bypass, allowing them to proceed with essential construction work on the elevated corridor.

This diversion is crucial as it will facilitate the undertaking of pier foundation work in the middle section of the corridor, specifically from the Hyundai showroom to O’Coqueiro Hotel in Porvorim.

The introduction of the Sangolda bypass is expected to significantly improve traffic management, minimising inconvenience to daily commuters, residents, and businesses in the vicinity.

Motorists have long been facing difficulties due to the congestion and ongoing construction activities on the main highway stretch. With the bypass becoming operational, smoother vehicular movement and reduced delays are anticipated.

The elevated corridor project, aimed at decongesting Porvorim’s busy highway section, has been a crucial infrastructure initiative, but its progress has led to periodic disruptions in traffic flow.

The PWD hopes that with the bypass in place, work on the elevated corridor can proceed without major hindrances, ensuring timely completion of the project. As the final preparations for the bypass inauguration are underway, authorities urge motorists to adhere to traffic diversions and follow signage for a hassle-free commuting experience.

The new road is set to be a game-changer in tackling congestion and improving road infrastructure in the region.
