The sudden relocation of the Water Resources Department’s office in Mapusa to the WRD’s Sinchai Bhavan in Porvorim has drawn criticism from the public, as it would severely inconvenience people residing in five constituencies in Bardez.

The WRD office had been located in the building of the PWD near the Kadamba bus terminus in Mapusa. The department had established this office to facilitate people from all five constituencies — Mapusa, Tivim, Aldona, Siolim and Calangute. The WRD office in Mapusa was considered convenient for people since it was located near the KTC bus terminus.

The PWD had decided to renovate its Mapusa office building and the WRD, which was located on the first floor of the building, had been requested to shift its office elsewhere.

Sources said the WRD officials suddenly shifted their Sub Div-II office in Mapusa to the Data Centre, ground floor, Sinchai Bhavan complex at Porvorim about 15 days ago without giving any public notice.

The office was shifted on a holiday and the office staff also had little information about the change in location, sources added.

What has added to the inconvenience of the public is the ongoing work on the Porvorim elevated corridor. Traffic congestion has prolonged the time taken to travel from Mapusa to Porvorim.

Adv. Mahesh Rane has demanded that WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar intervene in the matter in the interest of people from Bardez.
