Madhusudan Satardekar was elected unopposed as sarpanch of Parsem panchayat, with former Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte retaining his influence in the panchayat.

The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Ajay Kalangutkar as sarpanch two weeks ago.

A special panchayat meeting was convened on December 26 and, since Satardekar was the only candidate to file his nomination, he was elected unopposed.

Others present at the meeting were Deputy Sarpanch Pradnya Parsekar and panchas Ajit Morajkar, Swapnil Naik, Sunita Bugde, Ajay Kalangutkar and Reshma Kambli.

Sopte later visited the panchayat and greeted Satardekar on his election as sarpanch, and expressed confidence that he would continue to prioritise the development of Parsem village, just as former Sarpanch Ajay Kalangutkar had done.

Satardekar said all seven members of the Parsem panchayat are working for the benefit of the village.
