Vasco Police have ruled out robbery as a motive in the murder of Gayatri Marathe at Pixem Dongri in Kharewaddo-Vasco on Sunday evening.
According to police sources, Vasco Police have begun an investigation from all angles. “The murder of the 70-year-old woman has shocked everyone, especially since it was reported in daylight in a house located along one of the busiest roads in the heart of Vasco city. Marathe was living alone in the house,” said the source.
The source said an autopsy established that the cause of death was through strangulation and subsequent slitting of the throat. The body was later handed over to the family and the final rites were performed.
“Police have ruled out robbery as a motive in the case because the woman was wearing gold ornaments which have not been taken and all her belongings and money are intact. She had worn a gold chain, finger ring, and bangles on her body and the gold ornaments were not even touched after the lady was killed. Besides, the room and the cupboards don’t look to be ransacked and there was no environment of robbery in the house,” said the source.
The police have got some footage from nearby CCTV cameras and are in the process of verifying the visuals and zeroing down on any possible accused. “The police are also investigating other angles like property or any recent incident that may have involved the deceased. The police are confident that the case will be detected soon and the culprit will be caught,” said the source.
