The World Chess Federation, FIDE officially conferred the title of International Master on Rohan Ahuja at its 4th Quarter Presidential Board Meeting held at Athens, Greece.

Geno Brand Ambassador IM Rohan Ahuja capped a phenomenal year in which he earned 4 IM Norms in a short span of seven months. These performances earned him a whopping 243 ELO points and he was awarded two titles by FIDE – first the FM title in July 2015 and now the IM title.

His current rating of 2440 is the highest amongst all Goan chess players and catapults Rohan to the No 1 position amongst Goans as per the list released by the AICF. Rohan also made it to the FIDE Top 100 World Juniors (U-20) list released by FIDE in January 2016. He is only the second Goan player after IM Anurag Mhamal to attain the IM title and is also the youngest player from Goa to do so.

The crowning glory of Rohan’s achievements was his stellar performance at the Qatar Masters Open Chess Championship where Rohan earned his fourth IM Norm with a performance rating of 2546. The unassuming lad who is a three-time State champion and also captained the State team to its highest ever eighth place finish in 2014 has now set his sights firmly on the Grand Master title.
