The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj municipal park in Valpoi town is set to get a major facelift, with the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) sanctioning Rs 1.56 crore to develop the municipal park.

The proposed development of the municipal park has been welcomed by Shiv Premi and supporters of Shivaji Maharaj, who have thanked the government for approving a proposal to develop the municipal park.

The statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been installed in the municipal park at Valpoi town. For the last three years, the Shiv Premi and other citizens have been demanding the beautification of the municipal park.

A proposal to develop the municipal park was later submitted to the government and it was approved by the GSUDA with a fund of Rs 1.56 crore being sanctioned for the project.

The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) recently received a letter of approval in this regard.

When contacted, VMC Chairperson Sehzain Sheikh said the proposal was submitted to the government on behalf of the municipal council.

“As part of this proposal, a plan was submitted to beautify the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Municipal Park in Valpoi. The government’s approval of Rs 1.56 crore will give a new lease of life to the municipal park and will provide better facilities to residents in the town,” said Shaikh.

VMC Vice-Chairperson Anil Katkar said the council had made special efforts to push for the development of the municipal park.

“With the government’s approval, the VMC now has the opportunity to provide a better park in Valpoi town,”

VMC Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane confirmed that the GSUDA had approved the proposal and a letter of approval has been received by the VMC.

“Many facilities will be provided in the municipal park. Under this project, there will be sitting arrangements for senior citizens, while there will be a facility for walks in the park,” said Rane.
