The Rural Medical Dispensary (RMD) at Headland Sada, Vasco, under the Urban Health Centre has been upgraded to a significantly larger space near Laxmi Narayan Temple, to to improve access to basic healthcare services for residents.
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar inaugurated the RMD on Saturday morning in the presence of Councillor Shraddha Amonkar, Dr Manguirish Audi, Dr Rajendra Kanekar, members of the Laxmi Narayan Temple committee and a large gathering of local residents.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, Amonkar said the dispensary had long been operating under severe space constraints.
“The earlier premises was barely 15 square metres,” he said. “Patients felt uncomfortable, and even the doctors faced difficulties due to the lack of space.”
He said the new premises, offered by the Laxmi Narayan Temple, has allowed the health authorities to reorganise the facility more effectively.
“We are grateful to the temple president and the entire committee for making this space available,” Amonkar said.
The expanded dispensary now has separate rooms for the doctors, OPD and pharmacy. Amonkar said the team has also earmarked the rear portion of the premises for patient beds. “The beds have already arrived. They only need to be assembled and placed,” he said.
Amonkar added that efforts were underway to introduce additional healthcare services for the community.
“We are planning to offer blood tests free of cost and also make arrangements for saline drips in case of emergencies,” he said, adding that the idea was to ensure that residents of Headland Sada have access to essential medical support without having to travel long distances.
Residents present at the event said the upgraded facility was a long-pending requirement for the locality, given the increasing patient load and the limitations of the previous structure. The new space is expected to ease congestion and help the medical staff function more efficiently.
With the RMD now operating from a larger and better-equipped premises, authorities said the focus would be on gradually enhancing services and ensuring that the locality receives the basic health infrastructure it has been seeking for years.
