PORVORIM
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday assured on the floor of the House to take stock of various issues faced by residents and pending works in Porvorim constituency.

During Zero Hour, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte listed out various pending projects in Porvorim constituency, which include the Housing Board market, multipurpose sports complex at Socorro, fire station complex, science park, PDA garden and Art Park.

He also raised various issues pertaining to water, power supply, internal roads and sewerage being faced by the people of Porvorim constituency.

Khaunte said people have been concerned that with a growing number of government, commercial and residential complexes, there would be a huge burden on existing infrastructure in Porvorim constituency.

“Porvorim is categorised under urban status. The constituency still faces major problems of water, garbage, sewerage and power. Therefore, it is imperative that the 15 MLD water treatment plant at Porvorim is commissioned soon, to resolve water problems in Porvorim constituency,” said Khaunte.

Khaunte also claimed that street lights in Penha de Franca, Socorro and Salvador do Mundo villages are either non-functional or require frequent repairs.

“A lot of street lights don’t have any fittings due to a shortage with the electricity department and this has led to darkness in certain areas of villages, accidents and security issues. We are still awaiting the street light policy.”

“Land to set up the Sewerage Treatment Plant has been pending for want of clearances. Similarly, the novel Science and Art parks also need to be made operational for the benefit of students,” he added.
