Carrying forward their concept of unifying the Konkani communities through the medium of art and culture, Kala Niketan Goa Majorda and St Aloysius College Mangalore jointly organiSed the second semifinals of Sonvskrutayechem Daiz: Duo and Duet Competition of original Konkani songs at the Maffei Hall of the college on September 15.
In the fierce competition judged by Goa’s ace drummer, Xavier Fernandes (Paklo), renowned singer George Gonsalves, and famed Youtuber Joel Ribeiro, Wilma Lobo and Kewin Rodrigues bagged the first prize in the Duet category. Diyola D’Souza and Marwin Sequeira bagged the second prize, while Shayna Crasta and Shannon Pinto were awarded the third prize. Anshul D’Souza and Ashel Pinto-Viyola Tellis qualified for the finals by claiming the fourth place.
In the Duo category, Deona Joselin D’Souza and Deena Delna D’Cunha bagged the top honors while Ashwini Princi Saldanha and Roshni D’Souza bagged the second prize. Neema D’Silva and Reema D’Souza won the third prize. Franklin Kriston Castelino and Bruce Rego qualified for the final round by bagging the fourth place.
The first eight spots for the finals being cemented by the jury at both the semifinals, all attention is now centered on the wild card entrants, who will be judged online by the people based on the likes and views gathered on their semifinal performance that will be uploaded on September 20, 2023, on the YouTube channel Kala Niketan Goa.
Arnaldo D’Costa, President of the Konkani Tiatristanchi Sonvstha, was the Chief Guest for the occasion. Sweedal Mendonca, a lead singer of the recently held Mando Festival at Mangalore, compered the function with zeal and gusto, drawing applauds from the gathering every time she took to the podium.
Michael Gracias welcomed the gathering to Goa for the finals slated on October 25, 2023, and urged all to be part of building the cultural bridge between Goa and Mangalore.
The highlight of the function was the traditional Goan Bakery Stall, Cumido, managed by Ashwin Fernandes of The Bakestrait bakery from Azossim, wherein Goan delicacies like Bibinca, Dodol, Doce, Pinagr, Cakes, and other items were on display and sale.
