The traditional Sotreo (Umbrella) festival was celebrated with pomp and religious fervour in Cuncolim on Friday.
The palanquin carrying Shree Shantadurga Kunkallikarin was taken to Cuncolim from the temple at Fatorpa amidst sprinkling of gulal and dancing with the umbrellas to the beat of drums.
The procession wend its way along the traditional route from Fatorpa to Cuncolim, with hundreds of devotees welcoming the Goddess along the route.
Though the Sotreo festival coincided with Good Friday, people from all walks of life welcomed Shree Kunkallikarin to her native place in Cuncolim.
Given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation, the Shree Shantadurga Kunkallikarin Devasthan had put in place adequate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the festival.
Devasthan President Nitin Desai informed that unlike the past, the procession of Shree Shantadurga Kunkallikarin started from the Fatorpa temple at 12 noon because of pandemic. “The procession reached Tolleabhat near the Cuncolim Municipality building at 1.30 pm and returned back to Fatorpa by 6.15 pm,” he added.
