VASCO
The South Goa Taxi Association on Wednesday filed a complaint at Vasco Police Station against social media influencer Rupali Dixit, alleging that a video posted by her has defamed local taxi operators by branding them a “taxi mafia” and accusing them of overcharging.
According to the complaint, the issue relates to a trip taken about two months ago, when Dixit hired a taxi from Dabolim Airport to Malvan, Maharashtra, for Rs 5,500. The association claims this fare was lower than the government-prescribed rate for a late-night journey.
Despite this, Dixit allegedly posted a video tagging “Taxi Driver Mafia in Goa” and claiming that passengers are being charged excessively. The association termed the allegations “false and misleading,” stating that such content harms the reputation and livelihood of taxi operators.
Members said the video has created negative perceptions among tourists and the public, adding that many drivers depend entirely on the profession for their income.
“The fare was below the official rate, yet it has been portrayed as overcharging,” a representative said.
The association has urged police to take action for spreading misinformation and appealed to influencers to verify facts before posting. Police are expected to examine the complaint and video as part of further inquiry.
