The Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), in collaboration with WPU Goa, will confer the “Gomant Gaurav Sanman” (Lifetime Achievement Award) on eminent scientist Prof. Dr. Raghunath Anant Mashelkar. The award ceremony will be held on April 16 at Kala Academy, Panaji, at 4 pm, as part of the “Goa 2037: Knowledge, Industry & Sustainability Conclave.”
A Padma Vibhushan awardee and former Director General of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr Mashelkar is being honoured for his remarkable journey from Marcel village to becoming a globally respected thought leader in innovation and inclusive development.
GCCI President Pratima Dhond said the award recognises a lifetime of excellence and highlighted Dr Mashelkar’s philosophy of “Gandhian Engineering,” which promotes doing more with less for more people. WPU Goa Executive President Rahul Karad described him as a visionary rooted in Goan values of simplicity and resilience.
The conclave aims to align Goa’s growth with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. It will feature discussions on balancing industry with ecology and strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to position Goa as a global knowledge hub.
