After being pulled-up by the Union Ministry of Education over vacant teaching positions, the State government has announced to fill up almost 859 vacancies of primary teachers and instructors on contractual basis.
The Ministry’s Project Approval Board (PAB) of Samagra Shiksha had earlier this month directed the State to take immediate steps to fill 848 teaching positions across primary, secondary and senior secondary level by this year December 31.
Accordingly, the Goa Samagra Shiksha has scheduled a walk-in interview to fill up 700 positions of primary teachers on contractual basis, 129 posts of NSQF instructors and another 30 posts of Instructors for Fine Art, Western Music and Theatre Art at the Directorate of Education.
The walk-in interview for the primary teacher’s position is scheduled from May 26 to 30. Of the total 700 posts, 371 are unreserved, 189 reserved for candidate from Other Backward Class (OBC), 84 for Scheduled Tribes and 14 for Scheduled Caste candidates. Similarly, 35 vacancies are reserved for persons with disabilities (PwD) and seven for ex-serviceman.
On May 29, walk-in-interview is scheduled to fill up 30 positions of Instructors that include 12 for Fine Art and Nine each for Western Music and Theatre Art. Except for the two posts of Fine Art Instructor in Mormugao, rest all are to be filled for Salcete taluka.
The Education Department will conduct interviews for NSQF Instructors in the field of automobile, hospitality, healthcare, construction, plumbing, banking, beauty, logistics, etc on May 27 and 28.
During the meeting earlier this month, PAB noted that at the State-sanctioned level, 306 positions of the teachers at the elementary level, 311 at the secondary level, and 231 at the senior secondary level remain vacant.
The Ministry’s panel had also asked the State to fill up contractual posts in the State Council for Education, Research and Training (SCERT) and District Institute of Education Training (DIET) on a regular basis on priority by June 2025. There are 33 posts out of 37 that are currently filled on contractual basis.
During the meeting, the State was urged to ensure need-based opportunities for continuous professional development of teachers, enabling them to complete at least 50 hours annually, as envisioned in the NEP 2020.
