Forum renews demand for removal after 5 injured in accident

After a road accident that left five persons injured, the Navelim Civic and Consumer Forum has renewed its demand for the removal of a roadside tree on the Navelim–Aquem Baixo road.
Forum Secretary Joseph Vaz pointed out that the driver of a garbage pick-up van and four female workers were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle after swerving off the road to avert a head-on collision.
Demanding that the authorities cut down the tree without further delay, the Forum said it serves no purpose and has turned the site into an accident-prone spot.
Joseph noted that the Forum has been pursuing the matter with the concerned authorities since 2020, but in vain. He said the officials kept passing the responsibility from one department to another, as a result of which the tree still stands tall at the site.
