Batteries and other items worth about Rs 70,000 were stolen from the store room of Babaji Dabholkar in Chapora. Anjuna police have arrested five people in connection with the case.
The arrested persons are Irfan Ahmed (20) and Tafeem Bakridi (20), both residents of Harmal and originally from Uttar Pradesh; and Savita Sunil Lamani (30), Geeta Ramesh Nayak (35) and Shruti Ravi Karbhari (25), all residents of Harmal and originally from Gadag, Karnataka.
The theft took place between 5 pm on August 26 and 10 am on August 29. The suspects broke into the store room near Chapora jetty and stole a used battery, five nuts and bolts, eight shackles, one wing leg, three wheel stands, six boards and some cable wires, all valued at about Rs 70,000.
After Dabholkar discovered the theft, he lodged a complaint with Anjuna police. Based on his complaint and CCTV footage from the shop, the police identified the suspects and arrested them on the evening of August 29.
Further investigation is underway.
