Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho has said the trend of Muslims joining and supporting the BJP has begun from Dabolim constituency.
He was speaking to reporters after a function by the Dabolim Minority Association to felicitate Shaikh Abdul Ayas on being appointed member of Goa State Haj Commitee (GSHC). Others present on the occasion included GSHC Chairman Urfan Mulla, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and Sancoale ZP Anita Thorat.
"With Shaikh Ayas from Dabolim Constituency being appointed member of the GSHC, this will help a lot of Muslims from Dabolim to have their own member in an important committee like the GSHC. We are glad that our spokesperson Urfan Mulla will head the GSHC,” said Godinho.
“We are also glad that a long-pending demand is met and an embarkation point for Haj pilgrimage is assigned at Mopa and I am confident that the next demand for a Haj House in Goa will also be a reality soon," said Godinho.
GSHC Chairman Urfan Mulla said the All India Minority Affairs had improved after Smriti Irani took charge.
"The first thing Irani did after taking charge was to have a tie-up with Saudi Arabia and increase our quota and ensured that pilgrims get subsidies and discounts. She also ensured that there were no discrepancies in quota or fares by private tour operators when it came to Haj pilgrimage,” said Mulla.
“As GSHC Chairman, I will also ensure that pilgrims are not cheated or left without proper facilities by private tour operators and agents.”
“We have a long-pending demand for a Haj House and we are confident that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade will help us achieve this demand and sort out issues related to Haj pilgrimage.
Newly appointed GSHC Member Shaikh Ayas said he would do his best to serve people who want to go for the Haj pilgrimage.
“We have even kept staff in our office to fill their forms and resolve their difficulties. We have also submitted our phone numbers in all 22 masjids of Mormugao Taluka and people can call us anytime for any difficulty faced by them and we will help them,” said Ayas.
“We request pilgrims to fill up forms before March 10 and complete the quota of 200 persons, especially since we have a flight for the pilgrimage and an embarkation point at Mopa Airport in Goa," said Shaikh.
