Vasco City is set to get a complete makeover and the entire city will be revamped with beautified roads, proper drainage systems and even changes in traffic movement.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borkar, municipal engineers and project consultants carried out a joint inspection of various places in Vasco City.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said changes in traffic movement would be experimented on trial basis.
“This project, being taken up under GSUDA at a cost of about Rs 25 crore, will give areas of Swatantra Path, FL Gomes road and St Joseph Vaz road in Vasco City a total makeover,” said Salkar.
“This makeover will include a total revamp with new pavements, a proper drainage system, decorative illumination landscaping, etc. We will also plant new trees along all the roads to give it a green cover and an aesthetic look. With the underground cabling work process already underway, this beautification project will also take care of provision of internet cables which currently are an eyesore all along the city roads,” said Salkar.
“We are trying to create a master plan for the city, and it could be ready in a month’s time. We will then study all aspects and carry out trials and subsequently finalise it.”
Salkar said there are also plans for traffic changes on trial basis which will ease traffic flow and also help in terms of parking.
“We are thinking of having one-way traffic on both parallel roads and serve as entry and exit points of the city. This will initially be done on a trial basis and a consulting firm has been appointed. The consultants have visited Vasco, and this is the second inspection by the firm.”
“They have had a look at all sites to work out a comprehensive plan and will soon come with all the options. This project will change the entire look of the city,” said Salkar.
