The Kshatriy Maratha Paramparik Macchimar Sanghatana has on Tuesday expressed their concerns to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP South Goa candidate Pallavi Dempo.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister during the visit to Velim, the fishermen from Velim requested the Goa government to stop the dredging work continuously taking place in River Sal.

They  have called upon the Goa government to initiate a rule of maintaining speed limits on boats operating in River Sal, saying this is not only hazardous to the ecology but also a danger to the boats plying in the river.

The fishermen further requested the Goa government to stop the anchoring of boats at the River Sal and also to ban the use of fishing boats in River Sal. “Fishing boats must ply only in the sea and not in the river because it is hazardous to the ecology and marine life, the memorandum pointed out.

They have further requested the Goa government not to allow water sports especially use of motorised boats in River Sal because it is hazardous to the ecology and marine life.

“We request the Goa government to work on the beautification of the mouth of River Sal under the Central government scheme of the Ministry of Tourism from Velim village to Betul village in Quepem. The beautification could also have a big statue of Shivaji or Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. We are willing to share a rough design of the beautification plan with the Goa government and we are certain that experts in the government can make the plan more socially and economically feasible for the State and people of Velim,” the memorandum added.
