Three officials including Sayyad Abdi the Managing Director and CEO of ABG Shipyard Ltd, which is the controlling stakeholder in WISL, Murthu Swamy the CFO and Anil Rao, the Yard Head called on the Chief Minister to place their proposal before him.Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the officials had promised to pay the workers two months dues immediately i.e. the very next day and the rest of the money within two months.“The workers up to the level of junior engineer have been paid till September 2015. The assistant engineers have been paid till June 2015 while the senior managers have been paid till March 2015. They have promised to pay all dues till November 2015 and clear the remaining dues within two months since they have bagged new contracts,” Parsekar told media persons.Abdi himself has said that WISL had reached such a state because the ship repair sector all around the world was reeling under a downturn but with the latest proposal they hoped that the work would resume as a ship was expected at the berth within the next one week. “We have bagged a contract for a ship to be repaired which will be expected in the next week. We have even cleared our power dues and electricity supply has been restored,” Abdi said.It is yet unclear whether the workers union has accepted the offer. WISL, India s largest composite ship and rig repair facility in the private sector, is one of the world s advanced multi-dimensional and multi-purpose yard.
