Erin Brockovich is the name of an Environmental activist and legal clerk who was instrumental in incriminating the firm Pacific Gas and Electric Company for contamination of drinking water that resulted in the highest pay out in US history ever – a staggering $333 million. Julia Roberts essays the role of this courageous woman and is beautiful in the portrayal of the struggles and hardships faced by her character. She is convincing in her performance which was widely acclaimed by critics all over. It is no wonder then that she received the Academy Award for the Best Actress including a Golden Globe Award for her role in Erin Brockovich.

The movie has 4 strong actresses who put up a convincing performance and bring forth the shackles that bound women in 1950s America. Julia Roberts teaches Art History at the Wellesley College for girls. E Holding the belief that women should be the masters of their own destiny, she tries to show the girls that they can have a life other than that dictated by the society. Her greatest challenge becomes Kirsten Dunst, and her greatest admirer, Julia Stiles. With excellent performance by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ginnifer Goodwin, this movie is one which you cannot simply afford to miss!
A women oriented drama film directed, co-written and co-produced by Madhur Bhandarkar. Priyanka Chopra won a National Film Award for best actress for this film. Fashion traces the journey of many women, namely Meghna Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) and Shonali Gujral (Kangna Ranaut). Despite being a women oriented films and having a whole female cast, the film opened well at the box-office and became a commercial success. The film received a number of nominations and won several at various awards ceremonies.
The movie starring Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman (need we say anymore?) created ripples across the box office (duh!). Directed, Co-Produced and scored by Clint Eastwood himself, it was no wonder that the movie won four Academy Awards including the award for Best Picture. Hillary Swank’s power packed performance as the trainee boxer who makes it big in the boxing worlds makes you sit up and take notice of the hard work put in by her in order to perfect her role as Maggie Fitzgerald. It goes without saying that the movie made millions at the box – office and set the cash registers ringing for a long time.
Considered as one of the finest classics of Indian cinema, Mother India was a path breaking film of its time and also one of Nargis Dutt’s path breaking performances. Nargis as Radha is a poor villager who fights all odds to raise her two sons. She is the epitome of justice and a mother god like figure in her village. In the end, staying true to her cause, she kills her evil son so justice can prevail.
