After taking up cudgels for the local residents against setting up of the waste treatment plant at Bainguinim, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Shripad Naik on Wednesday said he would find out from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on the government plan to make Old Goa a new megacity.

“Just now Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has explained to me the government’s plans to make Old Goa into a megacity. If the people don’t want something, I think the government should not go forward,” he said.

The Union Minister said he had told the Chief Minister to do a rethink on plans to set up a waste management plant at Banguinim when the area is being inhabited by people on all sides. “The proposed plant can cause water and air pollution. The plant has to be set up elsewhere,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vijai Sardesai told the Union Minister that the Pramod Sawant has drawn up plans to make Old Goa like Dubai when the area is declared as a heritage site by UNESCO.
