1 arrested in drug smuggling case at Colvale Jail

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a drug smuggling case involving a woman in the Central Jail at Colvale.

Fauston Alan Rawles, who resides at Arambol and Sawantwadi-Maharashtra is accused of making attempts to supply hashish oil to a foreign prisoner through an inmate, Sunil Madkaikar.

Police said the drug smuggling incident took place in the jail on Friday at around 4 pm and a case was registered based on the complaint of the deputy superintendent of the jail, Datta Kudchadkar.

The police registered a case against the accused, Tanvi Akshay Polji Bhomkar (23), who resides at Mapusa but is a native of Vante-Sattari. The accused woman had gone to the jail to meet an undertrial prisoner, Sunil Madkaikar.

During this visit, Bhomkar allegedly tried to give the drug to Madkaikar, when the prison staff caught her red-handed and seized 10 grams of hashish oil worth Rs 10,000 from her.

Police investigations revealed that Rawles had tried to supply the drugs to a fellow foreign prisoner through the female accused.

Meanwhile, police have identified the foreign prisoner and he will also be arrested in this case. Further investigation into the case is being conducted by PSI Ramchandra Satelkar under the guidance of Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar.
