Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s milestone of completing 12 years in office, describing it as "a period marked by bold decisions and transformative development".
Addressing a press conference in Panaji after returning from the NDA’s national convention in Delhi, Sawant said Modi’s tenure had delivered three landmark achievements -- the abrogation of Article 370, the elimination of terrorism and naxalism, and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
“These were dreams of millions, fulfilled under Modi’s leadership,” he said.
Sawant asserted that the Prime Minister’s decision to scrap Article 370 integrated Jammu and Kashmir into the national mainstream. He added that the NDA government had crushed terror networks and ensured peace. “The Ram temple stands as a symbol of faith realised,” he said.
The Chief Minister, flanked by ministers Subhash Shirodkar, Sudin Dhavalikar and Mauvin Godinho, highlighted the NDA’s economic record, saying India attracted Rs 70 lakh crore in FDI over 12 years, doubled its airports, and expanded the number of medical colleges from 842 to 2,100.
States, he noted, received Rs 11,812 crore in tax devolution compared to just Rs 2,076 crore during the UPA decade.
Sawant also listed Goa’s gains: 299 km of highways sanctioned at a cost of Rs 999 crore, the Rs 1,183 crore Mopa link road, electrification of 24 km of railway track, Vande Bharat trains on the Madgaon-Mangaluru and Madgaon-Mumbai routes, and the redevelopment of Madgaon, Sanvordem and Vasco stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
The Manohar International Airport was built at a cost of Rs 2,870 crore, he added.
Godinho added that the BJP had never practised religion-based politics. “I am third in Cabinet seniority because of merit, not faith. Modi’s inclusive leadership has won support even in Christian-majority States. Today, the world needs his firm leadership,” he said.
