The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Monday committed a 2025 house break-in and assault case to the Sessions Court, remanding two Bangladeshi nationals to judicial custody until the conclusion of the trial.

The Court, presided over by judicial magistrate Puja U S Sardessai, passed the committal order after taking cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the local police against Raju B (27) and Safikul Amir (37). During the hearing, both were produced from Colvale Central Jail and served with summons in court.

When the matter was earlier heard, the prosecution submitted the duo, along with 6-7 other unknown persons, allegedly broke into a house at Anjuna between 3 am and 5 am on October 7, 2025, wrongfully restrained the informant, tied with cloth strings, assaulted the informant and threatened with dire consequences to kill, before fleeing with gold, silver ornaments and a Maruti Alto car. An FIR was registered the same day.

The Magistrate noted that the offences invoked fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Sessions Court. Hence, this matter will have to be committed to the Sessions Court.

“The record of the case, including the documents and articles, which are to be produced in evidence and the original remand applications shall be sent to the Sessions Court... Accused are remanded to Judicial Custody until the committal of this case and also during and until the conclusion of trial before the Court of Sessions...” it said.

The jail authorities have also been instructed to produce the accused before the Sessions Court on January 23 at 2:30 pm, while the Nazir has been directed to transfer the muddemal property and entire case record without any delay.
