Goa recorded the highest rape rate among all states in the country in 2024, with 13.3 cases per lakh population -- more than three times the national average of 4.3, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The NCRB data showed that 105 rape cases were registered in Goa under IPC/BNS provisions during 2024, involving 106 survivors. Of them, 65, nearly 61 percent, were below 18 years of age, while 41 were adults.
Goa also recorded the country’s highest rape rate involving minors at 8.1 per lakh population.
While Rajasthan reported the highest number of rape cases nationally, its rape rate stood at 12.2. Chandigarh recorded the highest rape rate overall among states and Union Territories at 16.6.
The NCRB data further showed that Goa’s conviction rate in crimes against women stood at 9.4 per cent, while pendency was recorded at 91.2 per cent. A total of 1,682 cases from previous years remained pending trial, while 237 fresh cases were sent for trial in 2024.
However, Goa’s overall crime against women rate stood at 45.2 per lakh women population, lower than the national average of 64.6.
