Goa Assembly’s five-day Winter Session begins today, stormy debates likely

PANAJI:

The five-day winter session of the Goa Legislative Assembly begins today with Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju addressing the House at 11.30 am.

The session is expected to witness heated exchanges as the Opposition prepares to corner the government on issues including the Arpora nightclub fire incident, law and order, and land conversions.

During the session, the state government will respond to 178 starred and 553 unstarred questions across various departments. Around 12 government bills, including the appropriation bill, are scheduled to be taken up, along with five private members’ resolutions.

Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar will preside over the first full-fledged Assembly session since his election. From the second day onwards, government business will include passing supplementary demands and government bills. A special discussion marking 150 years of Vande Mataram is slated for January 13.
