A skill-based training programme for single mothers, survivors of violence and economically disadvantaged women has begun in Birla, Vasco as part of the State’s new initiative ‘SANKALP’.

The programme is being conducted close to the participants’ place of stay to ensure maximum participation, NGO ARZ Director Arun Pandey said.

According to District Mission Coordinator Ekrupa Mahale, the women were identified through a joint survey conducted with NGO ARZ.

"We shortlisted women based on their socio-economic vulnerability, and then provided them with counselling and information about the training. Once they consented, we began the first phase of the programme in Birla,” she said.

‘SANKALP’ is a vocational training and capacity-building initiative by the Department of Women and Child Development in partnership with ARZ under a public-private collaboration model.

"The programme aims to train around 50 women in screen printing, iron press printing, marketing, and costing. It also includes expert-led sessions on child sexual abuse, domestic violence and cybercrime," Pandey said.

Training will be conducted in three batches of around 15 women each, over a period of seven days. The first batch, comprising women from Birla slums, is already underway. The second batch will include women from Mangoor, while the third batch location will be finalised based on an ongoing survey.
