A pillion rider from Sanquelim was killed while the rider was seriously injured when their scooter and a truck collided with each other on Valpoi-Honda road at Redighat in Sattari on Friday night.
According to reports, Vanita Morlekar, a native of Koparde but married in Sankhali, was working as a security guard at the Valpoi Community Health Centre and was returning home after finishing her duty at about 8 pm.
Since there were no passenger buses at the time, she took a lift on a two-wheeler, when the vehicle and an oncoming truck collided with each other at about 9 pm.
Morlekar is reported to have died on the spot, while the rider was seriously injured.
The truck driver tried to flee from the scene, but locals chased him and intercepted him on the main road in Valpoi.
He was caught and handed over to the Valpoi police.
A case has been registered against him and the body of the pillion rider was sent to GMC hospital for an autopsy.
