The opening of the Kusmalli Bridge on the Belagavi-Goa Road via Chorla has been delayed for a few more days as work on backfilling is yet to be completed.

Incessant rains lashing the Jamboti-Kankumbi region have caused the delay, authorities said.

NH Executive Engineer Rajendra, along with the team and police, visited the bridge for inspection on Wednesday.

“Work on the bridge is complete, whereas the protection walls and the backfilling on the Jamboti side of the bridge, which has to be filled with the GSB material, couldn’t be completed due to heavy rains. If the rains subside, the work can be completed within two to three days and light vehicle movement can be allowed,” Rajendra said.

Meanwhile, authorities have been directed to initiate safety measures so that the work completion is done with proper procedure and safety measures, as the River Malaprabha was in spate due to heavy rains.
