The Curtorim gram sabha on Sunday discussed a host of issues and constituted its committees, including the bio-diversity management committee and other panels.

The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Caetano Hilario saw members discussing issues including tax assessment, real estate development without planning etc.

Gram Sabha member and former Curtorim Zilla Member Moreno Rebello raised the issue of land development in certain wards without planning. He said the unscrupulous landlords have sold land without planned development and the panchayat is held responsible to rectify all that is wrong.

In this respect, the Moreno suggested to the gram sabha members to pass a resolution barring outsiders from buying land in Curtorim. He pointed out that five states in India have been permitted by the Constitution to bar outsiders from purchasing land. Saying that Curtorim is facing power and water problem, he said the old lines need urgent replacement with duct iron and underground cabling is a must.

Outgoing chairman of the bio-diversity Management Committee, J Santan Rodrigues, Charles Barretto and others also raised issues of public interest at the meeting. The gram sabha elected various panels, including the Village Bio-diversity Committee.
