SANGUEM
The managing committee of a reputed educational institution in Sanguem has issued a show-cause notice to the school headmistress after she was caught on camera slapping a Class 6 student multiple times during class on Wednesday.
The management has given a two-day ultimatum to the headmistress to reply to the show-cause notice, failing which action deemed fit in the matter will be taken against her.
When contacted, the school management confirmed that a notice had been issued to the headmistress, while a copy of the show-cause notice would be forwarded to the education department for any necessary action.
The headmistress had slapped the boy on his face 4-5 times while reportedly trying to resolve a conflict between students, prompting the boy’s mother to file a police complaint at the Sanguem police station.
This decision to involve the police was reportedly made after the mother initially approached the headmistress for clarification, but claimed the headmistress had acted in a high-handed manner.
Fearing arrest from the police complaint, the headmistress has reportedly sought anticipatory bail from the Children’s Court.
Adding to the institution's concerns, it has also been revealed that the school has operated without a Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) for the last six months, a situation that arose after the headmistress had allegedly dissolved the body, claiming it was unnecessary.
