The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa on Friday launched a State-wide campaign to highlight lawlessness and what it alleged was the collapse of law-and-order under the current BJP dispensation led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Styling it ‘BJPChe Gundaraj Goyank Naka’ (Goa does not want BJP’s Gundaraj) the Opposition party said the campaign would be taken to nooks and corners across the State.

AAP State president, Amit Palekar and its national spokesperson Valmiki Naik, who addressed a press conference at the party office in Panaji urged Goans to unite against the rising attacks on citizens and the general lawlessness.

“This Diwali, it’s time we end the Narkasur of Gundaraj which has destroyed Goa’s peace,” Palekar said, referring to the recent attack on social activist Rama Kankonkar. “It’s a wake-up call for us Goans. Today it is Rama. Tomorrow it could be anyone of us,” Palekar said, adding that before the gundaraj grows any further Goans must unite to end it.

Naik echoed the concerns and said Goans are living in fear. “Whoever raises their voice against the BJP government is attacked, be it activists, businesspersons, or opposition leaders. The gundas are not in jail, but inside the BJP government itself,” Naik said. He accused Sawant of failure in maintaining law and order while pointing out that in the past six years crime has increased and eroded Goa’s image. He alleged that the BJP is nurturing gundas for its own political and personal gains.

Confident govt is paying attention to law and order: Governor

PANAJI: Goa Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju has expressed confidence that the State government is paying attention to the issues and ensuring law and order is maintained. Gajapathi Raju said maintaining peace and security was the responsibility of the government and the administration was paying attention to it.

His comments come amidst the uproar in the State over the recent daylight assault on social activist Rama Kankonkar. He was responding to the media in the capital city where he had gone to visit the site along the Campal walkway where the statue of Lord Parshuram stands.
