PANAJI: Goa turned into a canvas of colour on Monday as Holi celebrations swept through towns and villages, drawing people out to public grounds, temple courtyards, and neighbourhood streets.
Crowds gathered early in Panaji at Azad Maidan, where music blared, drums rolled, and clouds of gulal rose into the air. Families, youngsters, and tourists joined in, dancing freely and smearing colours in a scene that carried on through the morning.
In Sanquelim, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his wife Sulakshana took part in the festivities, exchanging colours with residents and joining in song and dance as cultural performances unfolded around them.
The celebrations extended to South Goa, where rituals at the Damodar Temple in Vasco marked the start of the day’s events. Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar joined locals at the temple premises before stepping into the larger celebrations.
Fatorda witnessed a moment that drew attention beyond the colours. BJP State President Damodar Naik and GFP Chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai were seen celebrating together, exchanging greetings despite their political rivalry.
