VASCO
While Covid cases spread rapidly from Vasco to different parts of the State, the situation five months later has been quite different in the port town and Covid cases now appear to be under control.

This has been a major relief for authorities in Vasco, especially for the staff at the MPT Hospital, which had been requisitioned by the Disaster Management Committee to function as a Covid Care Centre to handle rising Covid cases in Mormugao taluka.

Sources said the MPT Covid Care Centre has had no patients from Monday to Wednesday.

“Initially, there used to be a large number of patients in the hospital. At one time, the beds were full and there were plans to increase the capacity of beds,” said the source.

“However, things have changed completely in the last few days. There has been no patient in the hospital from Monday till late Wednesday evening.”

"Doctors, nurses and staff who had been working round the clock have got a well-deserved break for two days. It was only on Wednesday morning that the medical team was called to the hospital, keeping in mind there could be some patients admitted in the hospital.”

“We cannot claim if the declining number of cases in the taluka is the reason for this or because the government has allowed home isolation as a facility for people infected with Covid,” the source added.
