PERNEM: Ashwini Palyekar and Shivram Tukoji were elected unopposed as chairperson and vice-chairperson of Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) respectively.

Both posts had fallen vacant following the resignation of then chairperson Manoj Harmalkar and then vice-chairperson as part of an agreement among the ruling councillors.

At a special meeting in the PMC office on Thursday, Palyekar and Tukoji were the only candidates to file their nominations to their respective posts and they were declared elected unopposed.

Pernem MLA Praveen Arlekar, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, Rajan Korgaonkar of Mission for Locals, Korgao ZP member Ranganath Kalshawkar and others visited the PMC and greeted them on their election.

Speaking on the occasion, Arlekar assured that the government will provide all possible support to the development of Pernem municipality, while adding that priority will be given to setting up projects which can increase the revenue of PMC.

PMC Chairperson Ashwini Palyekar said she would give priority to the development of Pernem Municipality with the support of the MLA and the government.
